I think it's worth checking out Greil's Fall, Leaving Goldoa, Ike's Memory (his boyscreams are really good), Execution, Judgment, and Alone for a nice cross-section of the Japanese voice acting. Japanese United is particularly interesting compared to the English as an example of interpretative differences in voice acting.

IMO, Ashera is roughly the same (English must've tried her best to imitate), Lehran is still annoying but much better (I like him best at the end of Leaving Goldoa), Ike is much better, Zelgius and Ranulf are more natural somehow, Yune is still annoying with the exception of Gods' End, Mist is adorable, and Dheginsea is appropriately regal yet gruff.

You'll notice that most of the movies go to one person's account and most of the flashbacks go to another. You can check them out and search by "ファイアーエムブレム 蒼炎の軌跡" for FE9 and "ファイアーエムブレム 暁の女神" for FE10 for more, but I think I picked up everything important.

Shinon sounds EXACTLY the way he does in my head. Ranulf sounds better, oh yes.

I think the best comparison, though, has to be the screaming in Ike's memory scene. Have you seen that one in English?

Nope. Haven't seen most of them in English for spoilery reasons. I watched the Memory one just now and didn't understand most of it... but Mist was sickeningly cute.

That scene's a second-replay-with-special-conditions-only scene near the end of the game, but in any case, whenever you see it for the first time in English, I guarantee that Ike's screaming will be... memorable.

Well, shoot, just from watching that first one from FE9, I thought, "Hey, Ike sounds right!"

Didn't care for Greil, though.

ETA: Also not liking Micaiah. A lot of these voices just sound... generic.

I actually prefer English Greil, just a little.

Micaiah is kinda generic in both languages. I have no strong preference for her.

To be fair, coming up with a complex vocal profile for a character who has like 6 lines is a lot more work than most seiyuus are probably willing to put out. Thus the genericness of Misaha, Altina, and several others. I agree though that a lot of the voices fall under Japanese stereotypes, which are perhaps easier to swallow only because they fit in with the other Japanese elements present.
