The Future Kids (Part 2)

Finishing it up with all the rest of the kids. Part 1 is here.

Kjelle
Mother's Fate: Startlingly little information. Sully lived long enough to teach Kjelle to fight and tell her to stay off a horse [Supports]. Other than that, we have no indication for how or when Sully died.
Father's Fate: Varies by father. From The Future Past: Kellam died protecting others. Gaius left to travel the world and help the people and died on the road (before Sully died). Lon'qu and Vaike aren't transcribed yet and I don't care enough to look into the Japanese to see if it mentions anything. :P
Circumstances?: Probably part of the collective due to a connection with Lucina.
Childhood Friends?: She is Lucina's childhood friend [B Support, checks out in the Japanese]. She has also known Severa since childhood [C Support], though it's not conclusive how friendly they were. (Considering that Kjelle lets Severa put her through makeup lessons, I'd say they probably were friends.) Her Hot Spring Conversation with Cynthia talks about how Kjelle once defended Cynthia from a Risen's blade. In the English Kjelle specifies that it was when they were kids, but the Japanese instead says "long ago" (昔). Make of that what you will.

Cynthia
Mother's Fate: Sumia was killed by Risen [Harvest Scramble with Severa], and sent her pegasus back to Cynthia as she died[Supports]. Sumia probably died when Cynthia was reasonably young -- Cynthia talks about Sumia in terms of tales instead of memories [Supports] and when Severa talks about Cynthia's personality change [Harvest Scramble], it takes her a moment to remember that Cynthia was once feminine at all. However, Sumia did promise that they would craft a spear together [Paralogue], so Cynthia must have been reasonably old.
Father's Fate: With the exception of Chrom and Avatar, this is completely and totally unknown. We don't even know which parent died first.
Circumstances?: Part of the Collective owing to a connection with Owain.
Childhood Friends?: Practically everyone. With justification earlier: Possibly Lucina, definitely Owain, definitely Inigo, possibly Brady, possibly Kjelle. Additionally, she played with Severa as kids, though Severa remembers the experience negatively [Harvest Scramble]. She was also on good terms with Gerome [B Support]. I'd better list the kids who aren't suggested to be Cynthia's childhood friend: Morgan, Yarne, Laurent, Noire, Nah.

Severa
Mother's Fate: Severa says in a particularly tsundere moment that Cordelia "abandoned" her (which checks out dramatically in the Japanese: 捨てた), but considering that other children have been known to paint their parents' deaths as abandonment, it's not entirely clear if Cordelia went off to do something, or if she up and died. I personally think Severa's word choice in the Japanese suggests the former. In any case, Cordelia evidently stuck around long enough for Severa to get a feel for her parenting style.
Father's Fate: This is all from Future Past. If Avatar is her father, Cordelia dies after Avatar vanishes. Severa seems to imply that she watched dadd Kellam die defending someone. Severa watched Ricken die. Gregor lived long enough to become Severa's idol. Libra seems to have died fighting on Severa's behalf. Henry outlives Cordelia then dies some time later, though it's not clear when or how.
Circumstances?: Part of the Collective owing to a connection with Cynthia.
Childhood Friends?: As before: Kjelle and Cynthia both go way back with her, though their friendliness is ambiguous. She may have a long-standing girlcrush on Gerome and his pretty face.[S Support] She's canonically "old friends" with Noire.[C Support; Japanese: "childhood friends"] It's worth noting that her line in Owain B, "Ridiculous names and insane shouting is cute when you're six. But you're a grown man now!" does not exist in the Japanese.

Gerome
Mother's Fate: Cherche (along with her husband) flew around the continent doing civilian relief. They apparently died on the road, and Minerva returned alone. [A Support with Cherche] In the Future Past, Gerome specifies that his mother was killed by Risen. (One supposes that Minerva must have told him so.) It's not clear when she died, though many people compliment Gerome's combat prowress (including Kjelle) and one might suppose he inherited Cherche's secret techniques [the one mentioned in Cherche/Frederick supports]. His conversation with Virion in the Future Past suggests that Cherche and Virion taught him quite a bit before they left on their relief mission never to return, although his father's fate depends on the father, so take that as you will.
Father's Fate: Virion was around long enough to teach him a great many things before departing on the mission with Cherche. Stahl seems to have died before Cherche's mission. Vaike died fighting Risen, some time after Gerome was old enough to remember him. Kellam seems to have died somehow while defending people. Donnel died in the war. Ricken lasted long enough for Gerome to have a vivid memory of him, and was apparently also around when Gerome decided to be a wyvern rider. Gerome's reaction to Gregor seems to suggest that he never knew Gregor well -- he probably died before Gerome's conscious memory. Gerome watched Libra die. He watched Henry die too. Some of these fates seem to contradict his account in Cherche A Support. Unfortunately this isn't easily blamed on a localization mistake or anything -- yes, he does specify in the Japanese that both parents flew off on a relief mission and didn't come back. Some of his "die before me" language is marginally more ambiguous (to Libra and Henry -- "I don't want to see your dying form anymore") but in any case you clearly need to fumble around to make it work.
Circumstances?: In the Collective, via Lucina. Since his parents both flew off on missions now and then, one might wonder who in the Collective helped raise him the most.
Childhood Friends?: Canonically Lucina and Cynthia. Nothing for certain other than that. It's apparent that Severa was *around* him, but whether they were friendly is another matter. He also seems to be on good terms with Laurent [Supports and Harvest Scramble], but there's no evidence regarding how far back that goes.

Yarne
Mother's Fate: Panne died before he could remember anything [C Support]. Assuming Taguel childhood development goes at about the same pace as human development, that'd make Yarne probably younger than 4 at the time. However, Yarne does recognize Panne immediately in The Future Past and in his Paralogue. Maybe he had pictures?
Father's Fate: Yarne's father promised to come back and didn't [Father supports]. In the Future Past: Frederick died protecting Yarne; Yarne suggests Vaike left and vanished and was assumed dead; Donnel died protecting Yarne; Lon'qu, Libra, and Kellam were confirmed dead; Gaius did not die in front of Yarne; Gregor seems to be presumed dead; Yarne watched Henry die. As with Gerome, the generic supports seem to contradict some of the fathers' fates.
Circumstances?: WHO KNOWS. No, seriously. There's nothing in his supports, Scramble talks, or Paralogue to suggest anything about his childhood circumstances, other than that his mother died when he was very young. Who knows what happened after his father died too? (If one of his stray battle quotes happens to say something, let me know.)
Childhood Friends?: Nothing canonically suggested or implied as far as I can see.

Laurent
Mother's Fate: According to Future Past, Miriel disappeared at some point. Laurent "scoured the battlefields but never located [her] body." (This checks out in the Japanese.) Given that the kid was running around battlefields by the time, it sounds like Miriel died fairly late. This is also supported by how much she seems to have been able to teach him before then.
Father's Fate: It's all father-specific. In Virion's case, Laurent buried Virion himself (it checks out in the Japanese). Stahl was ambiguously dead. Vaike was definitely dead. Donnel died covering Miriel and Laurent's escape, and Laurent saw Donnel getting stabbed through. Laurent seems fairly certain of Lon'qu and Ricken's deaths. Gaius died protecting Laurent.
Circumstances?: We know that he's less than three years younger than Lucina [B support with Father]. Other than that, I don't think there's anything we can say.
Childhood Friends?: No evidence as far as I can tell.

Noire
Mother's Fate: Tharja died protecting her sometime after her father died [Future Past]. At the time Tharja died, Noire describes herself as "pretty young." [B Support; It checks out in the Japanese.]
Father's Fate: Her father died before her mother did, per supports. The details vary per father. From the Future Past: Frederick died covering a village's evacuation; Kellam died protecting her; Noire did not witness Libra's death ("I thought you were dead"); Vaike was killed by Risen. I haven't seen the scripts for Stahl and Lon'qu. The other fathers don't have more details.
Circumstances?: Probably part of the Collective, because of Severa and Brady. Given that Tharja used her as a guinea pig and that she was sickly, however, one might speculate that she was kept at home more often.
Childhood Friends?: Severa and Brady, as previously discussed.

Nah
Mother's Fate: Per The Future Past, "My mother died when I was too young to remember." She clarifies that she recognizes Nowi from pictures. Keep in mind that Manakete mature more slowly, including their mental age (Harvest Scramble, Nah and Morgan), so the usual human baby benchmark1 might not apply here. For what it's worth, there are some throwaway lines that are troublingly contradictory. For example, in The Future Past with Ricken, Nah says "Mother always said that Father was a great man."
Father's Fate: In her supports, she says she never knew either of her parents. The Future Past sometimes paints a slightly different picture. Stahl died before she could remember. But Donnel apparently gave her a hand-me-down, though that might not be proof that he was physically there--her foster parent might have passed it along, just as it seems her foster parents told her about Gaius's favorite candy. Libra also died before she could remember, though for whatever reason she attributes her style of speech to him. I haven't checked Virion. The other fathers don't help specify anything.
Circumstances?: After her parents died, she was fostered by someone else in the army [Father A Support]. The English specifies that it was one of her father's "soldier friends," but in the Japanese it simply says that it was "someone who was in my father's army." Nah's childhood circumstances are spelled out in considerable detail in her Father A Support. While there is nothing to explicitly say that she was not with the other kids in the Collective, there is no evidence to say that she was in it. And given the circumstances it sounds like she grew up apart from them: Nah cites defending her house from Risen, and having no childhood friends [Father A Support]. It's not stated what eventually became of her foster parents, but at some point she began performing mercenary work [Hot Spring Scramble, Kjelle], most probably before she joined up with the other kids.
Childhood Friends?: None from the cast, canonically.

1 The vast majority of people have their earliest memories between age 2 and 5. Earlier is biologically impossible; any memory from before the age of 2 must be a false memory created retrospectively. (I have a few of those myself.)

IIRC Cynthia and Gerome were friends too, weren't they?

Yarne recognizing Panne could be just that she's the only taguel alive at that point and he's aware of it--and that's how he knows her by sight. I assumed so anyway. But I'm a derp.

Another good post.
