Re-Translation: Introduction of Levin and Sylvia
By request of
mark_asphodel.
1 Literally "village headsman".
2 Here and elsewhere, literally "robber". But I'm going with the FE tradition. :P
3 Literally: "Look at how everyone's come and gathered!" Inferred from context that he means people are gaping at Sylvia crying.
I'd say the existing translation is pretty good.

Character | From Patch | Japanese | My Rough Translation |
Levin | Sir, what's all the turmoil? | 村長、なんかさわがしいけど どうしたんだ | Elder,1 what's with all the ruckus?% |
Elder | Well, if it isn't our little traveling bard. Best get a movin'. Bandits are headin' this way. You'd better hurry and prepare to escape, too. The bandits2 are coming to attack. |
Levin | Bandits? Where's the Agustrian army at a time like this? Won't Augustria's armies help protect us?% |
Elder | There's mutiny in th' streets, m'boy. Ain't no-one got time t'worry about us! T'tell th' truth, there's a bit more to th' story... Rumour has it Lord Macbeth himself set them bandits loose on our villages. | この国は今、内乱状態で 我々の事なんて かまってるひまはないのさ▼ いや、それどころか 盗賊をあやつっているのは▼ アンフォニー王だってうわさも あるくらいだよ▼ | This world is currently in civil war, so there's no time for them to look after our concerns and whatnot.% No, on the contrary, regarding manipulation of the bandits... there are rumors about the King of Anphony.% |
Levin | Whoa... he's gotta go. Look, I'll see what I can do. I'll take care of that scumbag. And you can all whip up a nice reward for me when I get back. All right. I've got it. I'm going to go out for a bit and go take care of those guys for you. In exchange, I expect you to shower me with your gratitude! |
Elder | There you go again with that big talk of yours. You best just get a move on. We ain't got time to be gettin' cosy with ya. | あんた、またそんなホラをふいて 逃げるんならさっさと行きなよ▼ わしらは、あんたの相手をしてるほど ひまじゃないんだ▼ | You, bragging even now -- if you're going to run, go quickly. As for us, we don't have the time to be looking after you. % |
Levin | Sheesh... give me a little credit, would ya? Ahh... screw it. | ちぇ、俺も信用ないな まあ、いいか・・・ | Pfeh, you have no faith in me. Hey, listen... |
Sylvia | Levin! You ain't splittin' on me, are ya? Where are you going without me?! |
Levin | (crap..) Sylvia! Er... you found me, huh? You've found me?! |
Sylvia | You've had your fun with me so you just up and leave, huh? The one who toys with people and throws them away when he's done with them? |
Levin | Hey now... Be nice. We've only been out like what... 2 or 3 times together!? I mean come on! Besides you're a traveling dancer, and I'm a bard. Doesn't that about sum it up? I've made your acquaintance in this village, but all we've done is eaten together two or three times! % You're a traveling dancer, I'm a minstrel. I'd say that's all there is to it to our relationship. |
Sylvia | But you said you thought I was cute. That meant something to me. | だけどあたしの事を かわいいって言ってくれた あたし・・・うれしかったんだから・・・▼ | But, as for my part, you called me "cute". I... I was so happy. That's why... |
Levin | Yeah, sometimes I say that. It don't mean anything. No no! Don't cry! I... I... Damn, now look. Everyone's starin' at us. Alright, you can come with me if you want. But things might get a little rough. You okay with that? It wasn't especially meaningful... Hey... don't cry in a place like this! Look, everyone's gawking at us.3 I get it, I get it, we're going together. But things are going to get a little rough. Are you ready for that? |
Sylvia | Yeah! I like it rough! I looove it rough! |
Levin | Sheesh... You were cryin' like a baby a minute ago, now you're all smiles. | ちっ、いま泣いてたと思ったら もうわらってる まるで子供みたいな娘だな・・・ | Tch, I thought she was just crying, and now she's already laughing. This girl seems completely childish... |
Sylvia | What's that? | なんか言った?▼ | What's that? |
Levin | Nevermind! Let's go. All right, let's go! |

Wow. What a guy.

Ah, heheh. So Sylvia is a bit of a Malliesia-grade fantasist. Good to know!
