This is sort of a reconciliation between what we see of Lyon in Eirika's route and what we see of Lyon in Ephraim's route. And it's sort of an exploration of Eirika's selflessness and apparently undying faith. And it's also sort of an answer to the twins' constant remarks that they thought Lyon and he wouldn't possibly do something like this.

And it's also a reconciliation between Lyon's misfortune and his guilt.

I have no strong feelings on how much Lyon should be condemned for his part in the wrecking of Magvel. But insofar as cause and effect runs, Lyon was certainly one of the strongest causes of this destruction. Is it possible for anyone living daily with postwar Magvel to hold him unaccountable on account of his good intentions? And in Ephraim's route, having learned that his intentions were not all pure, would it be possible to ignore that in the years that must be dedicated to restoration?

Perhaps, most of the time, the twins would forgive him. But I can't imagine that they wouldn't feel surges of bitterness now and then.

Fun fact: This started as a much squishier, innocent, and goopey recounting of Lyon centered around the idea of "I took your life and this is the way I am trying to bring you to life again, however poor a copy my words may be." But it was so ungenuine and false that when "I have thought upon it and I do not excuse you, Lyon" slipped from my fingers I knew that was exactly how I had to treat the beginning I'd written: as ungenuine.

And then the whole fic popped into my head, and I was pleased.
