I. Introduction

I started writing Suegen in June 2011 after some furious brainstorming with [personal profile] blankspectrum and [personal profile] raphiael. At the time I had imagined that it would take a month to make. Ha ha ha.

Although originally conceived as something for Fire Emblem fic, as the project neared completion I saw that Suegen did a pretty good job of working with characters outside of Fire Emblem, too -- and it does okay with canonical couples as well as Sues. (Which makes me wonder about the incredible backlash against the presence of a "Sue" as opposed to mediocre fluff, but that's an essay for another day.)

So, in the end, Suegen is probably just a Cliche Story Generator. But I like calling it Suegen better.

- You may share the stories you've generated with Suegen if you like. However, you must credit Suegen (preferaby linking either the game page or this page). Although the level of writing is unimpressive, my contributors and I spent a lot of time putting this together without earning a single cent1. So we'd like the exposure and e-props, at least.

If you'd like to take some bit of code/host this elsewhere/whatever: Sure, just let me know and link back.

1 And we're not allowed to under the ChoiceScript license. Nor can we make an arrangement with the Choice Of team because we involve copyrighted material in our presets. Besides, I'd feel a little weird asking them to host a niche parody.

- Who are Sue and Chris? No one in particular.

- I found a bug! See below for bug reporting. If you'd like to salvage your session, try using the synonyms button. There's one bug I've been trying to catch that can be fixed by doing that.

Last updated
March 21 2012: Suegen Beta 0.5 released.

II. On Contributing/Bug Reporting

If you find any bugs, please tell me (fesigenerator-at-gmail-dot-com) so I can fix them. When you report, please copy paste both the error message and exactly what the generator has made on that page before the error. For example,

The place where it cuts off is invaluable information to me, and sometimes the error message fails to provide this information for some people.

I would also appreciate it if you reported other mistakes (for example if you find a "her" where it should be "him", or if a preset's hair is the wrong color).

If you would like to contribute...

Presets: If I've overlooked some important fictional character who is the object of adoration of hordes and hordes of fangirls/boys, I would certainly like to add them. You can "create" this character in-game and send me the save file -- that'll give me all the information I need to know. If you're setting out to create a lot of these, let me know and I can give you a more efficient method.

There are some Fire Emblem characters left out mostly because we figured no one would want to use them, or just because they're too minor to be bothered with. If you'd like to see them, go ahead and do the above. (Does someone out there adore Valencia?) If you ask me for Gheb I will punch you.

On the other hand, if the character isn't nigh-memetic nor from Fire Emblem, I'm not sure I could justify adding them to the presets given in-game. However, you are free to alter your save file and pass the character around that way. If you amass a lot of saves (For example, a full set of Ace Attorney characters?) and post them somewhere, I'll gladly link to you as a resource.

Writing: I consider Suegen a mostly finished project, but it could probably be improved. The more writing, the more capable it is of expressing nuances, after all. Writing for Suegen is a bit tricky and I don't think you want to do it, but feel free to shoot me a proposal if you do anyway. I reserve the right to modify anything before it's put in.

III. On Modifying Saves

You can easily share presets, songs, and other things in Suegen with other people by modifying save files and sharing them. The guide is here.

IV. Credits

Hi. I'm [personal profile] amielleon. I did the vast majority of the writing and all the coding. I conceived of Suegen in a shady IM room with [personal profile] raphiael and [personal profile] blankspectrum. These two helped shape the initial concept, and later helped lot of the presets.

WET NOODLES wrote one scene (the one that starts "As they proceeded tenderly down the shoreline" -- you'll find it if you date Tormod with a submissive angsty character) and I took bits of her writing and threw them all over the place elsewhere too, and [personal profile] traincat wrote another ("The air was salty and warm, the sun sparkling bright" -- try Tormod and a submissive kind-hearted character).

The four people above in addition to [personal profile] xirysa, [personal profile] mark_asphodel, [personal profile] writerawakened, and magehenry helped out with beta testing and offering valuable feedback. Without them, there would be no songfic option. The defaults would have crimson-red skin. You would be all be my guinea pigs. All of you.

Of course, I owe FFN the most -- without which I would know nothing of Sues.

Presets by:
Archanea: [personal profile] mark_asphodel
Jugdral: [personal profile] amielleon
Elibe: FE7 by [personal profile] blankspectrum, FE6 by [personal profile] raphiael and [personal profile] amielleon
Magvel: [personal profile] amielleon and [personal profile] raphiael
Tellius: [personal profile] blankspectrum
Awakening: [personal profile] amielleon and [personal profile] blankspectrum
Classic/Other: [personal profile] raphiael and [personal profile] amielleon

Default songs:
"You Raise Me Up," Josh Groban
"My Heart Will Go On," Celine Dion
"Crawling," Linkin Park
"My Immortal," Evanescence
"Iris," Goo Goo Dolls

The generator was created using Choicescript, developed by Dan Fabulich (2010), used under a non-commercial license. I don't know the guy personally but he deserves props for making coding easy without having to learn a coding language. You should also try some of their multiple choice interactive fiction games, for example, Choice of Broadsides. I like them a lot.

I just spent a very delightful hour pairing my Sue-ified self with half of FE8's cast. Many lulz were had. (Songfic was especially fun.)

Kudos to everyone involved in making this ^^

thank you!

You guys should make another one!! this was really cool

(Anonymous) 2015-12-29 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
This is the best thing I have seen in a long time, lot's of fun was had. Many laughs where had with messing around with the options, quite a few tears were shed at the sad ending, it's actually really sad when you give time to making the characters. Well done, I can not praise you enough for this master piece.

The site is down. Is it going to be down permanently?

Suegen

Hi, I found your generator a few months back, and I quite enjoy it. It is very well made, and I wish you the best in setting it up again! As a side question, are you thinking of adding additional content to it, or are you content with it as is?

Many Thanks Ms.Amielle, it brought me many happy laughs with my friends.
I eagerly await when its back up~

A Small Question

(Anonymous) 2017-10-14 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you still working on the new version?

Bug found

(Anonymous) 2018-02-16 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure if you still "collect" bug about the genrator.

The bug I've found is that the characters hair had two differents colors (russet first, light brown later)

"What was it that brought them together, to be united in this perfect love?

It must have been fate in mortal form that brought them together. He knew from the moment he laid eyes on her that they were meant to be. From then on, they were inseparable. They shared every part of their life with each other. That was how it was to this very day.

Yes. He often reflected upon that day with fondness. It was a day that had changed his life, after all.

Morph, a rebellious man learned of life's secrets, stood alone on the beach, gazing over the ocean-colored water with his burning opaline windows to his soul. His russet hair rustled lightly in the ocean breeze. He tried to keep still despite his impatient excitement, resting his cheek against one hand as he discreetly patted at his sheathed dagger. He wore an obsidian flowing gown, sweeping out behind him. His light brown hair was trimmed short around his head, complementing his incorrigible silvery visage."
If required: I've picked Nailah.

A spooky thing

(Anonymous) 2018-04-18 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I found this really spooky glitch where if you make the characters the exact same, same hair eyes, name, past, stuff like that it will give you the line 550 error message, like this. {line:550,column:28,sourceURL:"http://suegen.azureye.net/scene.js"} And the story that was showed after. They basked in each other's quiet companionship for a few moments. "By the way," 0 mentioned, "Did you ever notice that we have the same name?" "Of course," 0 replied. "... And the same hair color..." "Mmhmm." 0 no.1 and 0 no.2 are my computer test subjects, same dna and with a few different traits.

It was really spooky to me. I thought it went like, two of the same person cannot exist in the same place.

Hi, since Webs is going down in a few days, I was wondering if you were thinking of moving Suegen elsewhere, like Neocities or something?
I still have fun playing with this from time to time, like just recently I searched for a fanfic generator and it was one of the first results.
I really should have asked this sooner. Sorry.

this is glorious
