Serenes Massacre Flashback Cutscene Translation (RD 4-F-4)

If you've ever wondered plot-crucial questions like, "How did Lillia end up with Ashnard?" you should probably check this out. This thing was pretty dramatically different in the Japanese.


You can watch this here. Forgive the wonky formatting and lack of tables -- I was gonna post it directly to Tumblr, but I figured it'd look pretty hideous there so I dumped it off here first.

[女性] Woman
う、嘘でしょう！？ T-that can't be true! [Lit. Might it be a lie!?]
あたしたちの神使様が…！ Our Apostle...!

[男性] Man
わしだって信じられん。 Even I can't believe it.
だが、この耳で聞いたんだ。 But I heard it with my own ears.
元老院の発表をな。 The senate announced it.

[エルラン] Lehran
…失礼ですが…… ... Pardon me...
神使様がどうかされたのですか？ ... But has something happened to the apostle?

[男性] Man
亡くなられた。 She passed away.

[エルラン] Lehran
えっ…？ Huh...?

[女性] Woman
夕べ突然にって… All of a sudden, last evening...
いったい何があったっていうの！ What in the world are you saying happened!?

[男性] Man
暗殺されたのさ！ She was assassinated of course!
セリノスの鷺どもの手によってな！ At the hands of the Serenes herons!

[女性] Woman
なんですって！ What's that you say?!

[エルラン] Lehran
ま、待ってください！ P-please wait!
そんなことあるはずが…… Such a thing couldn't possibly...

[男性] Man
すでにな、帝都に住む連中は Too late, huh? The ones living in the capital
セリノスの森へ向かったぜ。 have already went to Serenes Forest.
おのおのの手に武器を携えてさ。 And in each of their hands they were carrying weapons.

[エルラン] Lehran
な…っ！ Wha--!

[女性] Woman
やつらに報復するのね。 We'll get revenge on their lot.

[男性] Man
神使様を手にかけたんだ。 They laid their hands [violently] on the apostle.
１人たりと生かしておくわけにはいかん。 We can't let a single one live.

[女性] Woman
とうぜんよ。 Of course.
忌まわしいバケモノたちめ…… Those abominable monsters...
この手で引き裂いてしまいたい！ I want to tear them apart with my own hands!

[エルラン] Lehran
……そ…んな…… ... Something ... like this...

（画面暗転） (fade to black)

[男性] Man
どうした、あんた？　気分でも…… What's the matter with you? Are you feeling...

[エルラン] Lehran
…っ！ ...! [sort of a sharp breath -- just listen to the voice acting.]

[男性] Man
うわぁああああっ！ [Scream]!

[女性] Woman
バケモノっ！ Monster!!
鳥のバケモノよぉっ！　誰か！ A bird monster!! Someone!

（炎上するセリノスの森の様子が映し出される） (shows Serenes Forest, in flames)


（暗転） (black)


（場面：セリノスの祭壇に立つエルランと横たわるリーリア） (Scene: Lehran at the Serenes Altar, and Lillia lying down)

[エルラン] Lehran
メダリオンを鎮めなくては… If I don't suppress the Medallion...
たいへんなことになる…！ terrible things will happen...!

この娘は…… This girl is...

[男A] Male A
いたいた。 Where'd you go? [Or: We're here! Totally unsure -- this is my guess]
こんなところに隠れてやがったか。 Did you go and hide yourself in a place like this?

[男B] Male B
やれ！　一匹たりと逃がすな！ Hey! Don't let a single one escape!
神使様の仇だからなぁっ！ 'Cause they're enemies of the apostle!


（場面：祭壇上で輝くメダリオン） (Scene: the medallion above the altar)

[エルラン] Lehran
いけない！ It's no good!
【負】の気によって目覚めさせては…… If they're woken up from the chaotic energy... [Note: "they" is implicit here -- interpreting from the later explicit pluralization of "goddesses"]

（画面暗転） (Fade to black)

[エルラン] Lehran
……っ…！ ...[gasp]...!
【負】…の……… The... chaos's...

生来に力を失いしそなたに As one parted from your natural-born power,
なにができるというのだ。 what can you do? That is the thing.

この血は恥ずべきものではありません。 This blood is not something I should be ashamed of.

[アスタルテ] Ashera
そなたに免じ… I will exempt them... and
もう一度だけ人を信じてみよう。 only once more, I shall try to trust people.

あなた…　誰より優しい、私のエルラン…… You ... gentler than anyone, my Lehran...

[エルラン] Lehran
何故、私の力はなくなった。 Why did I lose my power?
何故、私の血族は奪われた。 Why was my family stolen from me? ["family" here: lit. "blood relatives"]
何故　何故　何故　・・・ Why, why, why...

（メダリオンを握るエルランの手が映し出される） (shows the medallion clasped in Lehran's hand)


（場面：森の中） (scene: in the forest)

[男C] Male C
なんだ、こいつは？ What's up with *him*?
さっきから呆けてやがる。 He hasn't been right in the head since awhile back.

[男D] Male D.
すぐには殺すなよ。 Don't kill him right away.
たっぷりと苦しめないと…… If we don't torment him plenty first...

[男A] Male A
ああ、こいつらは
すぐに死んじまうからな…… Oooh, 'cause if them're gonna die right away...
そんなんじゃ俺たちの気がおさまらない。 we don't get to do that kinda stuff, and it'll be pretty unsatisfying.

[男C] Male C
神使様の仇だ…… They're enemies of the apostle...

死なないように痛めつけて You hit'em in a way so they won't die,
痛めつけて、痛めつけて…… hit'em, hit'em...
それから殺してやる……！ then after that, then you kill'em...!


（画面暗転） (fade to black)

[エルラン] Lehran
……人よ…… ... O, people...

…残り３５０年*1足らず。 ... Our time left is just short of 350 years.
そんなに待つ必要はない。 It is not necessary to wait like that.

この世界にベオクはいらない。 This world does not need beorc.
ラグズも然り… And the laguz, indeed...
彼らはあまりにも不完全だ。 they are far too flawed.

お目覚めください、女神たちよ。 Please wake, o goddesses. [Explicitly marked plural]
そして――裁きを。 And then -- your judgement.

Takeaways:

The description of the image having Lillia lying prone is probably a fan interpretation. (All you can tell is that it's a female royal heron.) However, I believe it is the right one, since it rather easily explains how she ended up in Ashnard's care alongside the medallion.

The first man mentioned is probably working for the Senate or something, since he's spreading deliberate misinformation. (Japanese explicitly marks things that you heard from someone else -- and he isn't marking them like that.)

It's kind of interesting that NoA decided to take out the more loaded/grisly bits.

so THAT'S what that sound file is! ever since i cracked open the fe10 iso, i've been wondering what the deal with that file has been. unsurprisingly, i didn't know the sequence was so different in japanese or that something like this was involved. jesus christ, i am so glad i finally have an answer here

also, now i'm irked that the localisation didn't include this part. as it stands, that sequence with lehran flipping his shit feels pretty bare, and something like this clip really does a much better job of emphasising how much this is all getting to him than a few seconds of solid, empty silence

also holy hell altina's japanese voice is so different from her english voice it's not even funny

I don't think Altina has an English voice. You're probably thinking of Misaha.

But yeah, Endgame was kind of localised poorly. :/

nope, she has a speaking bit in the opening of endgame-4, and it's... something. she sounds even more passionless than ashera's voice does :P
