EDIT 8/4/13: The full script for this paralogue is out, and unfortunately the localization's call of "the hypothetical blah blah you were just talking about" is correct -- in context, Paris is riffing off of what Chrom and Lissa were just talking about and he means to just say that he's the "descendant of the hero of blue flames." I'm leaving the rest up because it's still worth noting that "descendant" is necessarily used to mean a blood descendent, although given Awakening's worldview, I suspect that was the intention.

EDIT 6/28/14: Just realized that the inheritor-of-a-craft definition given for descendent on that page is actually for the English work descendent, not matsuei. matsuei seems to just mean literal descendents. There are still a number of questions to ask before we get to "proof that Ike's straight" but the Japanese checks out.

If any further confirmation turns up that his ancestor actually popped out from Ike's steaming loins, then I will bother getting mad/vaguely annoyed/disappointed about this.

Until then, some remarks:

1) Some say that Marth was also a descendant of Anri, but I'm not finding this in the actual game script. If someone finds that remark for me, I'll try to see how the Japanese puts it and if it's the same.

2) The word for descendant used here can mean a successor or inheritor of a skill or a trade, as explained here:
また、学問や芸術などの「門下生」という意味もある。
Also, in fields such as scholarship and the arts, it is also used in the sense of 'disciple'.

Maybe he's just a dude with Ragnell, savin' Iris.

3) Guys, he says he's a descendant "in a fashion".

Seriously, this takes no creativity whatsoever, it's right in what he says. Look, I even linked you to a corpus search of that very Japanese word for you. The most relevant listing is probably this one:

The squiggly there that isn't in the dialogue, は, is quite commonly dropped (and frequently marked in its omission with a comma), especially when rough men are talking.

"In a fashion"? Only Yune knows what the fuck that means. But you know what, that leaves a lot of things perfectly viable. Have none of you forgotten that sorry excuse for an incestuous-valkyrie-brother-surrogate, Boyd? Who, you know, canonically can get with the incestuous valkyrie and have a weepy wedding? They probably have kids. They're a bit too Fire-Emblem-married not to.

That's supposing that the proper interpretation there isn't "supposedly".

Either way, I'd much rather get angry over Eirika's decidely stupid class.
